TRI-COUNTY MHMR ‘BREAKS GROUND’ ON CRISIS STABILIZATION UNIT
For Immediate Release
March 8, 2010
Tri-County MHMR Services held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the site of the new Crisis Stabilization Unit. The Crisis Stabilization Unit will provide a comprehensive array of services and will allow the Center to treat adults with serious mental illnesses who are experiencing a crisis near their home. Individuals will be able to be treated on both a voluntary and involuntary basis and most will be able to avoid admission to Rusk State Hospital. The facility will be a 12,000 square foot building located in Conroe, Texas.
The combined financial efforts of the county and state have opened the door for a much-needed mental health facility in Montgomery County. A local crisis stabilization unit will provide much quicker and qualified help for individuals with mental illness while eliminating long drives, potential time in jail, additional strain on our crowded hospitals and the need for constable’s deputies to leave their jobs in the counties they serve in order to provide transportation and act as an escort for the patients.
“It is wonderful to see so much support from our communities for this new program. We are excited that this important service is becoming a reality for those we serve. Tri-County is looking forward to continuing our work and providing quality services in the communities we serve, said Cindy Sill, Executive Director of Tri-County.”
The Crisis Stabilization Unit is a collaboration of the funding efforts by Montgomery County, Montgomery County Hospital District, Montgomery County United Way, City of Conroeand The Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
Tri-County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services provides services to clients in Montgomery, Liberty and Walker counties. Tri-County works to ensure the provision of quality services for individuals with mental illness and mental retardation and enhance the quality of life in our community.
