Independence Village Apartments, located in Huntsville, opened in November 2005 and was built by Tri-County Services and Independence Communities, Inc. It has been a tremendous success in providing safe and affordable housing for individuals with mental illness. Supportive services are offered for persons who need them. The complex has 12 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom units with an additional unit for an on-site manager.

Independence Village is fully occupied at this time and there is a lengthy HUD approved waiting list. Residents enjoy monthly activities on site, such as movie and bingo nights in the community room as well as various lunches and dinners where the residents participate in the preparation of the meals.
